On Tuesday, the 49ers announced the signing of running back Alfred Morris to a one-year deal. Today, the deal became official and offensive lineman Alan Knott ended up waived in order to clear a roster spot.
RB Alfred Morris has passed his physical and signed with the #49ers. To make room, the team waived undrafted rookie center Alan Knott, who had been away from the team since his dad passed unexpectedly last week.

Knott has an interesting career path. He was an undrafted rookie free agent out of the University of South Carolina who eventually signed with the 49ers on April 30. However, he has missed time at camp since his father passed away last week. With everything he has been going through at the moment, it wasn’t the best time for the 49ers to let go of him.
?? all my best to Rookie OL Alan Knott and his family. His father passed away so he will miss some camp time. #49ers pic.twitter.com/TcGZYXuFOd

Bad timing aside, Knott was at the bottom of the 49ers depth chart at center. If it wasn’t when the team signed Morris, Knott looked like he would have gotten cut from the roster at some point before the season began.
Considering the situation Knott is in, the hope is that he can latch on to another team soon.
